breathing underwater | nov. 17 | acrylic on canvas
I wanted to create a painting that represented more than just an animal. Using a scuba inspired helmet on the turtle, this creates a satire. Sea turtles can already swim 4-7 hours underwater without air, but the turtle has the scuba helmet on, which only provides him with one hour of oxygen. He doesn’t need to have the helmet to survive, but he is still wearing it. I was inspired by my love and the beauty of the ocean. I wanted to bring out the dynamic bright colors of the coral reef to focus on its magnificence, before death of the coral reef.
